'We Are Asking For Our Rights': Karnataka Cong Leaders Protest Against Centre's 'Injustice' In New Delhi — Top Points

Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar along with other Karnataka Congress leaders held a protest against the Centre over the alleged 'injustice' against the state at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Wednesday. During the Karnataka Congress' protest against the Centre, Siddaramaiah highlighted Karnataka's tax contributions and emphasized the state's minimal returns. He also said that the primary objective was to safeguard the interest of the state and welfare of Kannadigas.

On the other hand, BJP countered the claims of Congress and staged a protest in Bengaluru and Delhi. The BJP staged a protest against alleged misuse of funds by the Karnataka government.

Karnataka Congress Protest: Top Points

  • During the protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah said, "Karnataka is number two as far as tax collection is concerned, Maharashtra is number one. This year Karnataka is contributing more than Rs 4.30 lakh crores as tax...If we collect Rs 100 as tax and give it to the Govt of India, we are only getting Rs 12-13 back, that is our share."
  • "Injustice has been done to Karnataka. Seven crore people give tax every day and we are getting only 13 per cent, we want our share," said Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar in Delhi.
  • Karnataka Minister Dinesh Gundurao criticised the Indian government's lack of assistance during the drought. He said, "We have made repeated pleas to the Govt of India to help us during this drought period. They have been completely indifferent to us. Not even one rupee has been given to us."

 

  •  Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge said, "Nobody is denying that there is a system. How come in the previous system we got 1% more and this in this system we are getting less. Somebody must be recommending, right? There must be corrective measures. We are asking that."
  • BJP leaders countered the claims of Karnataka Congress. Karnataka BJP leader Tejasvi Surya asserted that 75% of Karnataka's funds came under Modi's government and accused Congress of unfulfilled promises. BJP MP Tejasvi Surya said, "...75% of all the funds that Karnataka has received in the last 20 years has come in the last 10 years of PM Modi's govt...The Congress during elections promised mindlessly, freebies, which they are unable to fulfill today...This is nothing but a political gimmic..."
  • Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar said, "Congress has been continuing its 'politics of lies' for several years...Congress knows that it is unable to fulfill its guarantees in Karnataka and to distraction attention from it, they are staging this drama..."
  • Meanwhile, Karnataka BJP leaders held a protest at Vidhan Soudha in Bengaluru against the Congress-led government over the alleged misuse of funds by the Karnataka government. The police later detained the protestors.
