Chennai: “We're thinking very seriously about Uniform Civil Code,” said Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai on Saturday. Reiterating the stand of the party, he also said that as far as BJP is concerned we feel that it is desirable to have Uniform Civil Code.
On Saturday, CM Basavaraj Bommai as per ANI said, "We're thinking very seriously about Uniform Civil Code, this has been one of the main things in the manifesto on the all-India level by BJP. There are committees to implement it in other states."
"We're looking into it, studying all those aspects and will take a call. As far as BJP is concerned, we feel it's desirable to have Uniform Civil Code," he said.

"I would like to say very clearly that we not only expound things we believe in that can make people’s welfare possible and bring equality, but also will take all strong measures to implement it," the CM said, as per PTI.

On Thursday, Home Minister Amit Shah said that BJP is firm on implementing Uniform Civil Code across the country. Hence, he said that the party will have healthy and open discussions after keeping democratic norms in the mind.
As per The Hindu, he said, "If a nation and States are secular, how can laws be based on religion? For every believer, there should be one law passed by the Parliament or the State assemblies.”
Goa already has Uniform Civil Code in place.
