Prajwal Revanna Suspended From JD(S) Over Karnataka Sex Scandal
Prajwal Revanna, Karnataka MP and the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, has been suspended from the JD(S).
The Janata Dal (Secular) has decided to suspend Karnataka's Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda over allegations of sexual harassment of women. "We welcome SIT against Prajwal Revanna. We've taken a decision to recommend our party's national president to suspend him from the party till the SIT investigation is completed, "JD(S) core committee president GT Deve Gowda said.
Earlier in the day, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, whose BJP is in alliance with the JD(S), said that his party was in favour of protecting women's honour. He questioned the Congress over why no action had been taken in the matter if there was any truth to the allegations since it was the Siddramaiah government in power in the state.
What Is The Revanna Sexual Harassment Case
The controversy has rocked the JD(S). Prajwal Revanna, the JD(S)-BJP candidate from Karnataka's Hassan seat for the Lok Sabha election 2024, and his father MLA HD Revanna have been accused of sexually harassing women between 2019 and 2022. Prajwal Revanna and HD Revanna are the grandson and son, respectively, of former Prime Minister Deve Gowda.
Two FIRs were lodged against Prajwal Revanna in the case following a complaint filed by a woman who worked in their household. In response to the allegations, the Karnataka government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the alleged scandal.
HD Kumaraswamy, Prajwal's uncle and former Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy, called for a thorough investigation, saying that if the charges were true, appropriate legal action should be taken. "We are not going to protect him, we will take severe action but the government's responsibility is more. Not only as an uncle but as a common man of the country we have to move further. This is a shameful issue, I am not protecting any person. We have fought against these kinds of illegal things. This is a serious issue. Who is running the government, they have to expose the real picture and the ground reality has to be exposed by the govt and not me..."," Kumaraswamy said.

The scandal deepened with the emergence of explicit video clips allegedly showing Prajwal Revanna engaging in sexual acts with several women. The circulation of pen drives containing these videos, reportedly totalling 2,976 clips, has further intensified the controversy. Additionally, reports indicate that Prajwal Revanna has left the country, making the situation further embarrassing for the party.
