Karnataka: Mysuru Civic Body Removes Dome-Shaped Structures On A Bus Shelter

The Mysuru city corporation has taken action two weeks after BJP MP Pratap Simha claimed that the structures are look-alikes of a mosque

Mysuru civic body Saturday demolished dome-shaped structures on a bus shelter of Nanjangud-Ooty National Highway bus stop. The Mysuru city corporation has taken action two weeks after BJP MP Pratap Simha claimed that the structures are look-alikes of a mosque.

Meanwhile, SA Ramadasa, MLA of Krishnaraja constituency, has defended the construction, saying the dome-shaped structures were built keeping in mind the significance of the heritage of the city and it was modelled on Mysore Palace.

"In order to showcase the historical and cultural significance of Mysore, bus stops are to be constructed in resemblance to the Mysore Palace in several places of the constituency with different designs, facilitated by the minister's fund. This is to be constructed with a budget of Rs 10 lakh and the construction work is in progress," said the MLA, as quoted by India Today.

The bus shelter has been demolished 12 days after the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) issued a notice to the Mysuru city corporation to remove the controversial dome-shaped structure on the bus shelter.

In a notice dated November 15, NHAI said, "The bus stop has been constructed even though many times our engineers have stopped the work within the national highway right of way. In connection with this, it is advised to remove the structure constructed to achieve controversial kind of issues which is not acceptable and accordingly one week time has been given to remove them.

"Since it has developed communal issues as per the national Highway Administration Act this may be treated as notice otherwise as per the Highway Administration Act 2003 action will be initiated."
