Karnataka: Bommai To Continue As CM, Says BJP State In-Charge Amid Speculation Over Leadership Change

BJP MLA and cabinet post aspirant Basanagouda Patil Yatnal had said that there would be change of leadership in the southern state on May 10 and the chief minister might be changed.

New Delhi: Karnataka BJP state in-charge Arun Singh, amid speculations over change in leadership, on Tuesday said Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai will continue to hold his post.

Speaking to reporters close to news agency IANS, Singh said Bommai is the common man’s chief minister and that he is delivering good governance under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. There are no plans of changing the leadership, he added.

"Even people want him to be continued in his position. There is no answer for questions framed out of imagination. The issue of change of leadership in Karnataka is a matter of surmise," IANS quoted Singh as saying.

Replying to whether Bommai would be projected as the chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming Assembly elections, Singh said that Bommai is a common man and the people of Karnataka want him to become the CM again.

It is people's wish that BJP should go to elections under the leadership of Bommai, he added.

Notably, BJP MLA and cabinet post aspirant Basanagouda Patil Yatnal had said that there would be change of leadership in the southern state on May 10 and the chief minister might be changed. The high command is mulling over changing the leadership and Prime Minister Narendra Modi would take a call in that regard, he said.

Yatnal had further said that the party would go to elections under collective leadership and that there is no chance of facing the polls under the leadership of one man in Karnataka.

The statements of BJP MLA have triggered a controversy sparking a debate in the state political corridors.

While, BJP National General Secretary BL Santhosh had earlier hinted at a massive overhaul of party leadership, saying that changing leadership is the strength of the BJP, former chief minister BS Yediyurappa clarified that there would be no change in the leadership in the state.
