'Need Drinking Water....': Karnataka Minister To Approach Cauvery Authority, Supreme Court
Karnataka Agriculture Minister N Chaluvarayaswamy said they will also shortly finalise the issue of the farmer's compensation.
Stating that Cauvery was an ongoing situation, Karnataka Agriculture Minister N Chaluvarayaswamy on Wednesday said that the state does not have water and they need drinking water so they will appeal to Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) and the Supreme Court. On the drought-like situation prevailing in the state, the Minister said they will decide on the compensation for the farmers soon and they already have a Rs 4,000 crore loss in Karnataka.
After visiting Kalaburgi district, Karnataka Agriculture Minister N Chaluvarayaswamy said, "All the crops are growing slowly, not extremely growth... It's declared a drought condition. Within a week central team will visit Kalaburagi and other districts."
"Shortly we will finalise the issue of the farmer's compensation... Already Rs 4000 crore loss in Karnataka... Cauvery is an ongoing situation. I will appeal to CWMA and the Supreme Court that till now we don't have water, we need drinking water," he said.

Earlier, the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) asked Karnataka to release 3,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu by October 15 as per the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee's recommendation. Earlier, CWRC recommended Karnataka to release 3,000 cusecs of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu by October 15 along with the release of the backlog.
However, Tamil Nadu insisted that CWMA and CWRC direct Karnataka to release 12,500 cusecs of water per day in order to save the crops in the Delta region.
Meanwhile, farmers from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka have been staging protests in connection with the Cauvery row.
