WB by-polls: BJP fields Anupam Malick, Sandeep Banerjee

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], Jan 8 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday named Anupam Mallik as its candidate from the Lok Sabha constituency of Uluberia and Sandeep Banerjee from the Legislative Assembly constituency of Naopara for the upcoming by-elections in the state.

Mallik is the party's Howrah (rural) district president.

By-elections were necessary from the seats after the demise of the sitting representatives from both the places last year.

Naopara MLA Madhusudhan Ghose died after a protracted illness due to cancer in August, while Uluberia MP Sultan Ahmed died of cardiac arrest in September.

The by-election in the state is going to be held on January 29 and the counting of the votes will be done on February 1. (ANI)
