Misuse of power won't be entertained: BJP on office of profit

New Delhi [India] January 21 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday termed disqualification of 20 Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs as correct and asserted that misuse of power will not be entertained.

BJP spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi said, "It is a decision of the Election Commission (EC) and the President has accepted it. It is the law of the nation so if something is wrong it will be removed. The decision is right. If anyone is misusing there power then this law will not let them enjoy that for long."

Lekhi also dubbed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's allegations of BJP misleading EC's decision as wrong.

"Even we have complaint for the EC that why the order came this late. There is no influence in President Kovind's decision," Lekhi further said.

Earlier in the day, 20 AAP MLAs, accused of holding the 'office of profit', were disqualified from the Delhi Assembly after President Ram Nath Kovind approved the Election Commission of India's (ECI) recommendation in the matter.

The ECI on Friday recommended to the president that 20 AAP MLAs should be disqualified from the assembly.

Initially, the petition was directed at 21 MLAs, but one MLA, named Jarnail Singh, resigned to contest in the Punjab elections last year. (ANI)
