Madhya Pradesh & Assembly Elections Exit Poll : MP goes Congress' way after 15 years

Background

MP Assembly Election Exit Poll: Madhya Pradesh voted on November 28 to elect new the assembly, the results of which along with those in four other states will decide to which way the wind is blowing ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Whether the state voted to give the BJP a fourth successive term in power or provide a chance to the opposition Congress to break the saffron party's monopoly over power for the last 15 years, it will be out in a short while from now in ABP News' exit poll of Madhya Pradesh assembly elections. The main contest in Madhya Pradesh is between the Congress and BJP though the BSP and the SP are also in the fray. The BSP has fielded 227 candidates, while the SP is contesting on 52 seats. The AAP, contesting the Madhya Pradesh elections for the first time, has fielded 208 candidates. The campaign was high decibel, often marked by bitter personal attacks, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi & Congress President "Rahul Gandhi" leading the charge of their parties.

The satisfaction with the ruling state government was also very low as compared to the past assembly election held in 2013 & satisfaction with the Central government headed by the NDA was even lower than the state BJP government in Madhya Pradesh.

The survey found a huge anti-incumbency sentiment; almost half of the surveyed voters expressed that the incumbent BJP government should not get another chance; only two of five wanted government to be re-elected.

Scindia seems to have had more impact on Congress voters compared to Kamal Nath. In individual likelability for the leaders, Jyotiraditya Scindia is most preferrf over Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan continues to be most preferred Chief Minister; two of five respondents preferred him. But the Congress leaders Jyotiraditya Scindia, Kamal Nath and Digvijay Singh (all combined) preferred by almost half of the respondents, Jyotiraditya Scindia most preferred for CM’s post among all the Congress leaders.
