Delhi: Kyrgyz woman arrested with foreign currency worth over Rs. One cr

New Delhi [India], August 22 (ANI): A woman from Kyrgyzstan has been arrested at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, for allegedly trying to smuggle out foreign currency worth over Rs. one crore.

The Central Industrial Security (CISF) officials said, "The woman was moving suspiciously in the airport campus. On suspecting foul play a woman official was called to intensively check the woman and her baggage."

"The woman has been identified as Baltabeva Zukhra (56), who arrived at Terminal III of the airport and had to board a flight to Bishkek. She was taken out for detailed frisking after the CISF personnel found her activities suspicious," the CISF official said.

"A total of 2, 01,172 USD (over Rs 1, 27, 64,363) were recovered from the two bags and the woman has been handed over to the customs authorities for further probe," he said.

A detailed personal and baggage search resulted in recovery of the foreign currency. The currency has been seized under Section 110 of the Customs Act 1962.

Post the investigation, the woman admitted that the required amount was sale proceeds of about 4,472 gms of gold brought illegally into India.

Meanwhile, the daughter of the woman was also arrested from a hotel in Pahargani. She further admitted to have brought about 3,383 gms of gold illegally into India on her arrival.

The woman and her daughter have both been booked under section 104 of Customs Act, 1962.
