CM Stalin Inspects Covid Care in Southern Tamil Nadu

Chief Minister MK Stalin visited a government hospital in Madurai on Friday and inaugurated new oxygen-supported beds at Government Hospital for Thoracic Medicine

Chennai: As part of monitoring Covid care in the southern parts of Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister MK Stalin visited a government hospital in Madurai on Friday and inaugurated new oxygen-supported beds at Government Hospital for Thoracic Medicine. Ministers and Madurai MP Su. Venkatesan, and DMK MLAs were at the inaugural event.

As the second wave of Covid is raging across the state the government has ordered various precautionary measures to contain the virus in the sub-urban and villages of Southern parts of Tamil Nadu. Stalin is inspecting five districts — Madurai, Salem, Tiruppur, Coimbatore, and Trichy.

On Thursday, the CM inspected the Covid prevention operations in the Kongu districts including Salem, Tiruppur, and Coimbatore. It’s been reported that Stalin is going to meet his brother MK Alagiri. Alagiri, who earlier criticised Stalin, had praised him after DMK’s thumping victory in Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections.

Stalin asked the DMK functionaries to avoid welcoming him to inspect for the Covid prevention works as this will be a purely governmental visit. He also said that flag hoisting and placing of banners should be strictly avoided.

Strict curfew has been imposed across Tamil Nadu from May 10-24 to curb the spread of Covid in Tamil Nadu.

Will the curfew in Tamil Nadu extend?

Stalin is scheduled to consult with a panel of medical experts on Saturday to discuss the measures to be taken to prevent the spread and the extension of the complete curfew. After consulting with the medical experts, the CM will have a discussion among DMK’s MLAs before deciding on the extension of curfew.

Despite, the curfew restrictions are being tightened in the state, there has been a surge in the number of Covid cases and fatalities to the deadly virus. Meanwhile, stricter lockdowns have brought down the Covid cases in parts of northern states and Maharashtra, where the impact of the virus had wreaked havoc. On this basis, some suggest that the curfew should be extended in Tamil Nadu. The panel of medical experts is expected to recommend to the chief that the entire curfew be extended. The strict curfew is more likely to last.
