Possibility Of Hospitalisation Decreases By 75-80% Post Covid Vaccination: Expert

The Christian Medical College in Vellore has conducted two separate studies on vaccinated healthcare workers in the high-risk group.

According to Dr. V K Paul, Member (Health) of NITI Aayog, the studies show that people are less likely to be hospitalised, given oxygen therapy, or kept in the ICU after vaccination. This is based on the study of the initial data of vaccination campaigns in healthcare workers in the high-risk group.

Two separate studies were conducted at the Christian Medical College in Vellore. The first study involved 8,991 healthcare workers who had been vaccinated. This also included healthcare workers who had received only one dose of the vaccine so far.

Based on the data received, Dr. VK Paul said that after getting vaccinated, the chances of being admitted to the ICU come down by 94%. This shows that the vaccine proves to be very effective even in cases of severe infection in the high-risk group.

Dr. VK Paul said: "Studies in India have revealed that after the vaccine, people become more protected against the pandemic." There have been two such studies on healthcare workers included in the high-risk group. According to these studies, after getting the vaccine, the chances of hospitalization are reduced by 75 to 80%. Data also shows that even if you have an infection after vaccination, your chances of being admitted to the hospital are only up to 20%.

Only 8% May Need Oxygen Therapy

Dr. VK Paul also said: "Only 8% of the people who have been vaccinated need to be given oxygen therapy. Also, according to the data, only 6% of the people may have to be admitted to the ICU after vaccination.  That is, for 94% of people who have been vaccinated, the possibility of being admitted to the ICU ends. This is very important and reliable data. The study included healthcare workers in the high-risk group, who are most prone to infection.

Vaccine Effective For Protection Of People With Serious Illness

He also said: "In another study by Christian Medical College, only one patient out of 7,000 people died after vaccination. This shows that the vaccine is also very effective for the protection of coronavirus patients with serious illnesses. In this second study by Christian Medical College, healthcare workers who have been given both doses of the vaccine were included. Of the 7,080 patients included in this study, 679 patients were found to have infection 47 days after the vaccine dose.

According to the study, "After vaccination, the infection is prevented in 65% of the cases. At the same time, the chances of hospitalization are reduced by 77%, while 92% of those who have been vaccinated do not need oxygen. Apart from this, the chances of being admitted to the ICU are also reduced by 94%.
