Saluting All the Nurses Who Are In The Frontline On World Nurses Day

The International Nurses Day is celebrated every year on May 12 on the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale. This year the day was dedicated to the nurses working in the coronavirus frontline across the world.

New Delhi: May 12th is observed as World Nurses Day every year. Observed on Florence Nightingale’s birth anniversary, she was the founder of modern-day nursing. She was a versatile writer was focused on spreading her medical knowledge. This year marks her 200th anniversary. The theme for 2020, Nurses: A Voice to Lead – Nursing the World to Health, demonstrates how nurses are central to addressing a wide range of health challenges. It will inspire nurses and make the public aware of their contribution to healthcare and health management. Before they get into the job, nurses are made aware that they are required to be willing to carry out responsibilities according to their calling with altruism, human dignity, integrity, honesty, and social justice as core values. As a profession with an altruistic nature that strives for people’s well-being from cradle to grave, risking one’s safety is inevitable at times. All nursing personnel are expected to put others before themselves and are selfless in conducting their daily responsibilities. The ongoing pandemic is a constant reminder of the people fighting against it in the frontline. Today we take the day to thank all the nurses for their relentless work in this battle against COVID-19. Murses make up for a major part of the workforce, they care for the patients round the clock. When patients today are in complete isolation, nurses support them psychologically, not just physically. Frontline nurses are out there, risking their lives every day to help in this hard battle against COVID-19. An example of selfless work is the nine-month pregnant nurse from Karnataka who insisted on continuing with her work despite her advanced pregnancy. Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa also expressed his gratitude to her and even and requested her to go on maternity leave. According to report by PTI, Roopa was working on a contract basis at Jayachamarajendra Taluk Hospital in the district of Shivamogga.
