India's Covid-19 Cases Tally Crosses 24 Lakh-Mark With Over 64,500 Fresh Infections; Recovery Rate Improves To 71.17%

India is third in the list of countries worldwide that have the most number of Coronavirus cases.

New Delhi: India has witnessed another significant spike in the single-day Covid-19 cases with fresh 64,553 infections reported in the last 24 hours. Along with 64,553 infections, 1,007 coronavirus fatalities have been reported across the country in the past day. With this, the total death toll has risen to 48,040. As of August 14, 8 am, India’s tally of total Covid-19 cases is now at 24,61,191 which includes 6,61,595 active cases and 17,51,556 patients who have been cured/discharged or migrated from hospitals, Ministry of Health stated on Friday. In terms of the number of cases, India is currently the third worst-hit in the world following the United States of America and Brazil. However, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has highlighted the gap between the number of recovered & active cases of India (May 04, 2020, to August 14, 2020) as a positive development in the fight against Coronavirus. The ministry has also updated that the Covid-19 recovery rate in India has improved to 71.17% as of August 14, Friday. It has also urged people to not panic even if one gets infected. "Don't panic if you get infected: Remember that most people get better. Practice self-isolation and take medications that are advised," - a tweet read.
