Follow These Healthy Habits At 50 To Live A Long And Disease-Free Life
We often clean our homes and organise our office work, but we deprive our bodies of their fundamental needs. By following these practices, one can stay fit and lead a healthy life.
Restricting unhealthy habits at the age of 50 can keep chronic diseases at bay. Research done by Harvard researchers lists five such practices. We can easily make some lifestyle changes that will keep heart disease, diabetes, and other age disorders at bay.
The research published by BMJ in 2020 is a follow-up and extension of the research published in 2018. According to the research, following these habits can increase the longevity of life.
Healthy Diet - When it comes to healthy aging, it's a well-known fact that what we eat is what we become. According to the CDC, one in four deaths occurs due to heart disease, which is the leading cause of death in the United States. The top risk factors are obesity, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and poor diet. The first three are often directly connected to the last one. That is why it is important to eat right, eat well, and eat healthy.
Exercising Regularly - Exercise helps in weight loss and reduces the risk of certain diseases. It helps in maintaining a healthy body weight and live a healthy life.
Maintaining Healthy Body Weight - According to the National Institutes of Health, a BMI of less than 18.5 is categorized as underweight. A BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 is ideal, and a BMI between 25 and 29.5 is considered overweight. An overweight or obese person is at a greater risk of developing grave health problems, including heart disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, respiratory problems, and certain types of cancer.
Avoiding Over-Consumption Of Alcohol - One glass of alcohol a day will not harm your overall health. But if a person gets addicted or finds it difficult to control the urge to drink more than a glass, it can have a detrimental effect on their health.
Abstaining From Smoking - According to CDC, smoking causes cancer, heart disease, stroke, lung disease, and diabetes. It also causes shortness of breath and chronic bronchitis. Smoking can also worsen tuberculosis, rheumatoid arthritis, certain eye diseases, and immune system problems.
Immunity Booster: Include jackfruit seeds in the diet to boost the immune system.
