Bird Flu Crisis: Russia Confirms First Case Of Human Infection With H5N8 Strain Of Virus
Seven employees of a poultry farm in southern Russia were found to be infected with the H5N8 bird flu. The level of infection has been described as 'mild'. There was no sign of transmission between humans so far.
While the world strives to battle with deadly Coronavirus which started to spread from China to people across the World, Russia has recently registered the first case of a strain of bird flu virus named AH5N8 being passed to humans from birds. News agency ANI quoted the head of the Rostpotrebnadzor consumer rights protection watchdog saying that the scientists from Russia's research center Vector have confirmed the first case of human infection with the H5N8 strain of the influenza A virus, which causes bird flu.
Anna Popova, the head of Russia's health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor in a televised remark reportedly said, "Today, I want to inform you about an important scientific discovery made by scientists at the Vector Scientific Cente. he first cases of human infection with [avian influenza A(H5N8)] have been laboratory confirmed."
As per the report, seven employees of a poultry farm in southern Russia were found to be infected with the H5N8 bird flu. The level of infection has been described as 'mild'.
There was no sign of transmission between humans so far. Meanwhile, the authorities have sent the information about the world's first case of transmission of the avian flu (H5N8) to humans to the World Health Organization (WHO).
