New Delhi: Veteran Telugu actor and Mahesh Babu’s father Krishna passed away this early morning after suffering a cardiac arrest. Krishna was admitted to Continental Hospital in Hyderabad early morning on Monday. Mahesh Babu, his wife Namrata Shirodkar, and the rest of the Ghattamaneni family members issued a joint statement on Tuesday informing the world about the news.  Taking to Twitter, GMB Entertainment issued the statement after Krishna's death.

“It is with the deepest grief that we inform you of the passing of our dearest Krishna garu. He was a superstar in so many ways beyond the movie screen… guided by love, humility and compassion. He will live on through his work, through us, and the many lives he influenced. He loved us more than anything and we will miss him more with each passing day… but as they say, goodbyes aren’t forever. Until we meet again…,” read the statement, which was signed off as “The Ghattamaneni Family”.

The veteran actor, whose full name was Ghattamaneni Siva Rama Krishna Murthy, turned 79 in May this year. The superstar of yesteryears was reported to be depressed since the death of his wife Indira Devi in September. She had been suffering from a prolonged illness. In January, he lost his elder son Ramesh Babu.

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao condoled the death of the famous film actor and producer Krishna. The CM remembered Krishna's services to the Telugu film industry for five decades as an actor, producer, director, and head of a production company.

The CM said that the death of Krishna, who acted in more than 350 films and left an indelible mark on the hearts of moviegoers, is a huge loss for the Telugu film industry. Apart from various family drama films, Krishna was popular as an actor in social films that create social consciousness among the people.

In a career spanning five decades, Krishna acted in more than 350 films. In 2009, he was honoured with the Padma Bhushan for his contributions to Indian cinema. Considered as one of the first superstars of Telugu Cinema, Krishna was last seen on screen in the 2016 Telugu film, 'Sri Sri'.
