Arun Govil recalls that people would touch his feet as the audience considered him their Ram.
Actor Arun Govil rose to fame after portraying Lord Ram in Doordarshan’s popular show Ramayan. The show was re-run on national television during the initial days of the pandemic. The show had gained so much popularity in the 1980s. Govil recalls that people would touch his feet as the audience considered him their Ram.
Back in 2020, Govil graced 'The Kapil Sharma Show' with his fellow actors from Ramayan and whike speaking with Kapil, he has then revealed interesting tales from his life.
He shared that while he was working on the sets for a Tamil film, he was into a bad habit of smoking. He was working with Bhanumati and was portraying the role of Balaji Tirupati. The shooting was happening in the south as well. He said that one day after lunch, he could not control his urge to smoke and lit one in a lonely corner on the set. He further adds, “I hid behind a curtain on the set, and then a gentleman came there, and he stared at me. I did not know what he said in his language, but I could understand from his gestures that he was just abusing me, and he was very upset with me.”
Arun called someone to translate what the man had just said. He told him, “we consider you as god and you are sitting here smoking cigarettes.” This hit him deep down and that was the last time he touched a cigarette. Arun said, “After that day, I have never smoked a cigarette.”
