'Gangubai Kathiawadi' Lands In Legal Trouble, Alia Bhatt Says, 'Controversies Don't Bother Me'

A petition has been filed by Congress MLA Amin Patel in the Bombay High Court on Tuesday, February 22, asking the makers to change the name of the film, before its release.

New Delhi: Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt's upcoming film 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' has landed in legal trouble. A petition has been filed by Congress MLA Amin Patel in the Bombay High Court on Tuesday, February 22, asking the makers to change the name of the film, before its release.

According to Patel, 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' misrepresents the Kamathipura area as a red-light area and also maligns the image of the Kathiawadi community. The Bombay HC will hear the plea on Wednesday.

Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, 'Gangubai Kathiwadi' is the story of a woman who is sold to a suitor and forced into prostitution. She later emerges as a prominent and celebrated figure as she fights for the rights of the women in this business.

Reacting to the controversy around the film, Alia Bhatt in an interview to ANI, said that controversies don't bother her. The actress, who is all set to make her mark with her remarkable performance in the film, said, "Neither any controversy nor any comment bothers me beyond a point. Of course, I feel there's a certain novelty that just a part of a film holds....whether the film is a good film or a bad film....that doesn't matter."

She further added, "The audience makes their final decision only after watching the film....nothing that happens before or after can really change the fate."

Recently, actress Kangana Ranaut had also taken a dig at Alia and her upcoming film. In a cryptic post shared on Instagram, Kangana had referred to Alia as a 'romcom bimbo' and 'papa ki pari'. She had even gone on to say that 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' has wrong casting and that Alia landed up the role only because of her 'movie mafia' father Mahesh Bhatt.

'Gangubai Kathiawadi' is all set to release in theatres on February 25. The film was also premiered at the Berlin Film Festival, recently.
