New Delhi: Aasif Khan, who played a guest of Phulera Panchayat, like many actors from the Prime Video Series 'Panchayat' comes from a humble background. Aasif began dreaming about a career in Bollywood after an incident during Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan's wedding. In a recent podcast with The Ground Flooor, the 'Gajjab Bejjati Hai Yaar' wala Dulha( groom) who populairsed the dialogue that has become a catchphrase in popular lingo, spoke about his journey and working in 'Panchayat Season 3'.
Aasif Khan background
Hailing from Nimbahera, a small town in Chittorgarh district of Rajasthan, he is known for his performances as Babar in 'Mirzapur' and as the damad guest of Phulera in 'Panchayat series. Aasif Khan was also part of 'Paatal Lok'.
In a recent interaction, Aasif spoke about his journey from a small town from Rajasthan to the glamour of Film City in Mumbai.
Aasif Khan at Saif-Kareena wedding
In the podcast, Aasif shared that at the time of Kareena and Saif's wedding, he was washing dishes in the kitchen of the same hotel. He had asked his manager for permission to meet the Bollywood stars, and that was denied. Aasif even cried that day because despite being so close to the actors, he could not meet them.
Post that incident, Aasif began dreaming about a career in Bollywood. After wandering around for a month, he got an appointment with a casting agency during which the manager of the agency told him, "Don't take my feedback personally, I am giving you honest feedback. Neither your looks are attractive, nor your body is very good, why would anyone cast you?" When Aasif asked what he should do, the person advised him to learn acting first. He advised him to do theatre and learn its basics.
And, that is when Aasif decided to go back to Rajasthan. He enrolled himself in a theatre group in Jaipur, the same theatre group from where actors like Irrfan Khan learned the craft.
Aasif worked as an actor in the theatre group for six years and then returned to Mumbai. He started to get work then and the rest as they, is history.
