Tokyo Olympics 2020: Reel-Life Mary Kom Aka Priyanka Chopra Cheers For Indian Contingent As She Watches Opening Ceremony

Tokyo Olympics Opening Ceremony: Priyanka Chopra gave out an 'extra loud cheer' for Mary Kom.

Mumbai: The Tokyo Olympics 2020 kick-started with bang with opening ceremony on Friday (July 23) at the Japan National Stadium. Millions of viewers from across all the globe watched the gala event on their television screens. Global icon Priyanka Chopra, who is currently busy shooting for ‘Citadel’ in London, took to social media to share photos of herself enjoying the opening ceremony of Olympics 2020. 

PeeCee ‘cheered out loud’ for Mary Kom, who led the Indian contingent at the opening ceremony along with Manpreet Singh. For the uninitiated, Priyanka played the role of the five-time boxing world champion in the film ‘Mary Kom’. 

Although the sporting event is being held without the spectators due to the COVID-19 crisis, Priyanka said that the cheers won’t stop.   

“I’m sitting in front of my TV watching the opening of the Olympic Games happening right now in Tokyo and the mood is somber, yet the moment feels nostalgic. We all know the games are unlike anything we’ve experienced before, with the best of the best athletes in the world competing for the pride of their countries. The arenas may be without an audience, but our cheers won't stop, no matter where we are," her post read.

The 'Bajirao Mastani' star wished luck to the nations and sportspersons participating in the Summer Games. She wrote, "Good luck to everyone participating. Know that you are giving an embattled world something to collectively cheer for.All the very best to the Refugee Olympic Team… I’m cheering for you!! Your presence sends such a powerful message of hope to the world."

Priyanka mentioned Mary Kom, Sania Mirza, PV Sindhu and Deepika Kumari while sharing her post on Instagram. "Best of luck #TeamIndia! I’m cheering for each and everyone of you! P.S. @mcmary.kom, gave an extra loud cheer for you ! @pvsindhu1, @dkumari.archer - go Queens! Show em @mirzasaniar," she added.

The 'Fashion' actress posted a series of videos on her Instagram story wherein she can be heard cheering for Indian team.

Priyanka Chopra's Upcoming Films

On the professional front, the 'Quantico' star was last seen in 'The Whiter Tiger'. She has a couple of exciting projects in her kitty including 'Text For You', 'Matrix 4' and a comedy drama with Mindy Kaling. 

The former Miss World is playing an important role in 'Citadel', which will beam on Amazon Prime Video next year.
