Soundarya’s Death: Amitabh Bachchan’s ‘Sooryavansham’ Co-star Was Pregnant & Wanted To QUIT Acting Before Her Plane Crash
Soundarya wanted to quit acting as she was expecting her first child, according to Tamil director R V Udayakumar.
New Delhi: South actress Soundarya, who worked in several Kannada and Telugu films, died on April 17, 2004 in an aircraft crash near Banglore. Her demise due to the plane crash had left film industry in a state of shock. Her ardent fans remembered the talented actress on her 16th death anniversary. Soundarya was fondly known for playing the role of Radha Thakur in Amitabh Bachchan’s ‘Sooryavansham’.
At the time of her death, Soundarya was two-months pregnant and she had plans to quit acting.
Tamil director R V Udayakuma, while talking to a publication, had said that Soundarya had called him up only to inform that Kannada remake of ‘Chandramukhi’ would be her last film as she was pregnant.
A day after she called the veteran director, Soundarya passed away in the aircraft crash. She was accompanied by her brother Amarnath, who also lost his life. The actress, who made her debut with ‘Gandharva’, was on her way to Karimnagar to campaign for the BJP and TDP candidate when her plane crashed.

"That day she talked to me and wife over the phone for about one hour but, the next day I came to know about her death only when I saw TV," R V Udayakuma had told Kerala Media.
Soundarya’s last film was the Kannada hit ‘Apthamitra’. The horror drama won her the Filmfare Award for ‘Best Actress’ posthumously in 2004.
