EXCLUSIVE: ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali Tests Positive For COVID-19

The shooting of Alia Bhatt's 'Gangubai Kathiawadi', which was going on in Mumbai Film City has been stopped for the time being.

Mumbai: After Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor, ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ director Sanjay Leela Bhansali has tested positive for COVID-19.

A reliable source told ABP News that Bhansali, who has been very busy with the shooting of his upcoming project ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ has tested positive for COVID-19. The shooting which was going on in Mumbai Film City has been stopped for the time being.

Reportedly, the ‘Bajirao Mastani’ director has self-quarantined himself after testing positive for the virus.

Last month on February 24, 2021, the makers of Alia Bhatt starrer movie ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ dropped its teaser and announced the new release date of this upcoming biographical crime drama. The movie which was earlier slated to release on September 11, 2020, will now hit the screens on July 30, 2021.

Reportedly, Alia Bhatt has quarantined herself after her boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor and 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' director Sanjay Leela Bhansali director tested positive for COVID-19. A source close to the 'Darlings' actress revealed, "Alia is completely safe and nothing has happened to her."

Three days after the teaser release of ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ on February 24, Sanjay Leela Bhansali started shooting with Ajay Devgn for this film at Mumbai Film City. The ‘Singham’ actor will be seen portraying the role of Karim Lala in this much-awaited movie. This movie will mark Ajay Devgn reunion with the director after 22 years. The duo was last seen working in the 1999 movie ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’.

Bhansali Productions tweeted a picture from the sets and wrote, “We are happy to have @ajaydevgn join the team of #GangubaiKathiawadi ❤️ @aliaa08 #SanjayLeelaBhansali @prerna982 @jayantilalgada @PenMovies”

Meanwhile, other than Alia Bhatt, this movie will also star Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz, Indira Tiwari and Seema Pahwa in supporting roles. Ajay Devgn, Emraan Hashmi and Huma Qureshi will be seen in cameo roles in the movie.
