Mumbai: Bollywood superstar Salman Khan extended support to the needy after the Central government announced the COVID-induced lockdown in 2020. The ‘Bharat’ actor has now arranged oxygen concentrators to help the COVID-19 patients in recovering from the virus. A consignment of 650 oxygen concentrators has reached Mumbai on Wednesday (May 19). They will be provided free of cost to the patients, who are battling Coronavirus.
Salman Khan has partnered with three-time MLA Baba Siddique and his son Zeeshan Siddiqui for the initiative.
ABP News was present at the spot where a tranche of the oxygen concentrators was being taken off from a vehicle. Baba Siddique and Zeeshan, while exclusively talking to us, opened up about how they made preparations with Salman to help the COVID-19 patients.
“We will first deliver these oxygen concentrators to the needy patients in Mumbai. We will also use them in different areas of Maharashtra to provide assistance to the people. If the need arises, we will try to provide the oxygen concentrators to states like Goa, Bihar without charging anything,” Baba Siddique told ABP News.
He said that the oxygen concentrators have been imported from different countries like Poland, Dubai, the UK.
Salman has shared a helpline number (8451869785), which can be used to get the oxygen concentrators for free.
Congress MLA Zeeshan Siddiqui said "These oxygen concentrators are of different sizes and capacities. The capacity ranges from two litres to 9 litres. They will be supplied according to the needs and demands of COVID patients."
The father-son duo said that people will have to return the oxygen concentrators after use so that they can be used to treat other patients. Zeeshan quipped, "We will sanitize the returned oxygen concentrators before using them again."
Baba and Zeeshan, while thanking Salman Khan's 'Being Human Foundation', said that they have not set any target for the number of oxygen concentrators. They said, "So far, 650 small and large oxygen concentrators have been imported. Depending on the daily demand, we will decide how many more concentrators to import. We hope that we and Salman are able to serve the people till the time COVID-19 crisis prevails."
Last year, Salman deposited Rs 3,000 each to the bank accounts of 23,000 daily wage workers in Bollywood. The ‘Radhe’ star announced that he would transfer Rs 1,500 to the bank accounts of 25,000 workers. The ‘Sultan’ actor is also arranging breakfast for the frontline workers in Mumbai since several days.
