Pati Patni Aur Woh REVIEW: Kartik Aaryan's Film Is A Fun-filled Entertainer Despite Its Flaws

The film co-starring Bhumi Pednekar and Ananya Panday gets problematic at places but can be watched once.

Film: Pati Patni Aur Woh Cast: Kartik Aaryan, Bhumi Pednekar, Ananya Panday Direction: Mudassar Aziz Ratings: *** (3 stars) It won’t be wrong to say that Kartik Aaryan is emerging as one of the most promising comic heroes in Bollywood. The ‘Luka Chuppi’ actor has once again proved his mantle as Abhinav Tyagi aka Chintu Tyagi in the film. The romantic comedy co-starring Bhumi Pednekar, Ananya Panday and Aparshakti Khurrana is a modern take on the concept of adultery. Unlike the original version which was based in then Bombay, Mudassar Aziz’s film is set in tier-2 town Kanpur. The director has retained the basic plot but given the story a retouch. The main guy, Chintu Tyagi is a government employee, who marries a girl of his parents’ choice after getting a respectable job. His wife Vedika (Bhumi Pednekar) is an independent and modern woman, who is bold enough to tell her prospective partner that she likes sex. All things taste sweet in the initial period and even Chintu and Vedika enjoy their marital bliss for few years. However, charm in their married life fades away when Vedika starts working. Bang! Here comes the gorgeous Tapasya (Ananya Panday) all the way from Delhi. Although, Chintu is not willing to cheat on his wife, he couldn’t resist the idea of spending time with diva from Delhi. He lies to both his wife and Tapasya, thus complicating the situation. Enough of the story! To begin with, ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh’ is a one-time watch but it has own share of fun moments. Kartik Aaryan has packed a solid punch as Abhinav Tyagi. He shares a good chemistry with Bhumi but same can’t be said when it comes to Ananya. Pednekar shines as the small town ‘patni’, who aspires to move to big city. Bhumi’s swag as Vedika is one of the highlights of the movie. Her not so docile character gets an interesting twist at the end of the film, which we won’t reveal. Ananya looks stylish but has nothing much to offer when it comes to acting. However, the star kid has a strong screen presence throughout the film. Aparshakti Khurana as Fahim Rizvi has once again managed to steal the limelight from others. After ‘Stree’ and ‘Luka Chuppi’, the actor hits the bulls-eye with his funny lines. The camaraderie between Chintu and Fahim is a treat to watch and it also works in favour of the film. The dialogues of the film, be it, “No what no why, free free bird blue blue sky” or "Miyan hum toh highlights dene aaye the, yahaan toh live telecast chal raha hai," will tickle you funny bones. Aziz has cleverly infused the witty dialogues in the screenplay depending on the comic situation. Although, ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh’ is funny for most parts, it did get melodramatic at times. The sluggish pace in the first half did bore us. The film’s tone is sexist and one can’t ignore it. Except ‘Akiyon Se Goli Mare’, the makers have nothing to boast about when it comes to music. The film, despite its flaws, is a pleasant watch.
