Odisha Government Waives Off Entertainment Tax On Kapil Sharma Starrer 'Zwigato'

Odisha government has announced waiver of entertainment tax on Hindi film 'Zwigato', shot in Bhubaneswar. The movie is directed by Nandita Das with Kapil Sharma and Shahana Goswami in the lead roles.

New Delhi: Odisha government has announced waiver of entertainment tax on Hindi film 'Zwigato', which was entirely shoot in Bhubaneswar, officials said on Monday.

Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik approved a proposal to this effect on Wednesday.

The movie is directed by Nandita Das with actors Kapil Sharma and Shahana Goswami in the lead roles.

As Odisha government has been promoting the state as a destination for shooting films through its proactive policies, the state government announced Zwigato tax-free. This will promote the tourism potential and provide employment opportunities for the talented local youth, the official said.

Patnaik joined a special screening of 'Zwigato' at 'Naveen Niwas', his residence, on Wednesday evening and appreciated Nandita's efforts in promoting Odisha as a destination for shooting commercial films.

He praised 'Zwigato' for successfully presenting the struggle of common men in cities, besides the artistic portrayal.

'Zwigato' will succeed in giving a positive message for social change and human values, Patnaik hoped, as reported by news agency PTI.

The social commentary, which actually uses the family of a food delivery man as the narrative's pivot, focuses on them along with numerous others who battle each day to bring bread for their families' dinner tables.

'Zwigato', which is set in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, focuses on Manas (Kapil Sharma), a former factory manager who was compelled to remain at home without work for months due to virus outbreak layoffs. Manas is the sole breadwinner for his family of five, which comprises his wife Pratima (Shahana Goswami), their kids Kartik (Prajwal Sahoo) and Purbi (Yuvika Brahma), as well as his bed bound, mother Maai (Shantilata Padhy), makes the decision to become a partner with the food delivery business Zwigato.

Kapil Sharma starrer social drama 'Zwigato' has witnessed an increase in box office revenue after a somewhat lacklustre start. As per Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the film is getting praises from the audience.

"#Zwigato finds appreciation from its target audience, but the #BO remains lacklustre… Although biz did improve on Day 2 and 3, the overall 3-day total is extremely low… Fri 43 lacs, Sat 62 lacs, Sun 79 lacs. Total: ₹ 1.84 cr. #India biz," he wrote.
