National Handloom Day 2020: Kangana, Priyanka, Vidya, Janhvi Promote Our Weavers And Urge People To Be ‘Vocal For Local’

To promote the works of local arts and artisans, Bollywood celebrities took to their social media to recognise the local artists’ contribution in the textile industry.

New Delhi: On August 7, India celebrates ‘Handloom Day’ to acknowledge the contributions of local arts and artisans of the country. This date is specially chosen to celebrate the Swadeshi Movement which was launched back in 1905. Many known personalities have been requesting people to value handmade products and appreciate the country’s culture behind handloom. They have also requested people to support local artisans through their posts. Smriti Irani, the Minister of Textiles took to social media to appeal people to share pictures with their favourite handloom products with the hashtag #Vocal4Handmade. Kangana Ranaut's team shared many pictures of the ‘Manikarnika’ actress in sarees on Instagram. In one of the pictures, she can be seen with her sister Rangoli Chandel. The duo can be seen wearing Indian handloom products. While sharing the picture, team Kangana Ranaut wrote, “Today is #NationalHandloomDay. Let's promote handloom, handmade, artisanal, and everything our nation should be proud of. When you choose handloom you choose weavers who are struggling for their survival, you choose to be #vocalforlocal, you choose mother earth, and love for every single being on this planet. #vocalforhandloom #savetheweave”
Priyanka Chopra also shared a story on her Instagram page where the ‘Mary Kom’ actress can be seen wearing a saree. She praised the uniqueness and craftsmanship of the Indian handloom industry. The actress can be seen wearing sarees at almost all the public appearances that she makes. The ‘Shakuntala Devi’ actress took to her Instagram and shared pictures of her wearing a mustard colour Kanjivaram saree with small pink checks all over and a fancy butta contrast border in pink and pure zari pallu with an intricate traditional design. Janhvi Kapoor also shared her most favourite and special handloom saree’s picture and appreciated the India’s artisans’ unmatched skills and creativity. The ‘Dhadak’ actress wrote, “Today is National Handloom Day! This is my most favourite and most special handloom saree.
