Mission Raniganj And Thank You For Coming Box Office Collection: Akshay Kumar, Bhumi Pednekar's Films Open Below 3 Cr

On its opening day, 'Mission Raniganj' earned around Rs 2.80 crore, and 'Thank You For Coming' collected Rs 1.06 Crore.

New Delhi: Two films of completely different genres were released on Friday (October 6)– Akshay Kumar’s 'Mission Raniganj' and Bhumi Pednekar, Shehnaaz Gill’s 'Thank You For Coming'. While Akshay Kumar starrer is a real-life based thriller, Bhumi’s film is a chick flick. On its opening day, 'Mission Raniganj' earned around Rs 2.80 crore, and 'Thank You For Coming' collected Rs 1.06 Crore.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh updated the box office number of Thank You For Coming and wrote, “#ThankYouForComing attracts its share of audience at urban centres, despite multiple films [new + holdover titles] to choose from… A good start, considering the smart release strategy [screen count: 550 / limited shows] and ‘A’ certificate… Fri ₹ 1.06 cr. #India biz.”

The film, also starring Dolly Singh, Shibani Bedi, and Kusha Kapila, was released with less screen count and limited shows. 'Thank You For Coming', directed by Karan Boolani and written by Radhika Anand and Prashasti Singh, explores themes like female friendship, the challenges single women face, and modern women's pursuit of pleasure and independence.

The Akshay Kumar starrer had a slow start, his last film ‘OMG 2’ had collected Rs 10.26 crore on its opening day. Talking about the film, the actor had said that the film has a niche audience and is not expected to earn like Jawan.

"Like, 'Mission Raniganj' is made on a certain budget, and I want to call 'Mission Raniganj' a commercial film. It is not like a 'Jawan' or a 'Rowdy Rathore'. It’s not that kind of film, it has a niche audience but I hope it does good business," Kumar was quoted as saying by PTI.

The rescue thriller is directed by Tinu Suresh Desai, who had helmed 'Rustom', for which Akshay won the Best Actor National Award.

The film is inspired by a real-life incident at Raniganj Coalfield and by the heroic act of Late Shri Jaswant Singh Gill who led Bharat's coal mine rescue mission. Akshay is set to play mining engineer Jaswant Singh Gill. A resident of Amritsar, Gill had received several awards for his act of bravery in 1989. He had volunteered and saved the lives of 64 people from a flooded mine in Raniganj area of West Bengal. Gill died in 2019 at the age of 80.
