What’s Majnu Bhai’s Painting From Welcome Doing In Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3? Anees Bazmee Answers

Anees Bazmee's ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’ has an interesting link to his 2007 hit ‘Welcome’ — the quirky painting of a donkey perched on a horse by Majnu Bhai.

Anees Bazmee's ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’ has an interesting link to his 2007 hit ‘Welcome’ — the quirky painting of a donkey perched on a horse by Majnu Bhai. The director, who actually created the artwork himself, decided to bring it back in his latest film.

Fans with sharp eyes quickly spotted the painting in the opening sequence of the movie’s trailer, which was released last week. In the trailer, Kartik Aaryan’s character, Rooh Baba, is seen tricking people out of their valuable possessions, and among these prized items is the famous painting.

Aneez Bazmee on Welcome painting in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3

Bazmee explained that he included the painting in 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3' because of its personal significance.

"Rooh Baba collects rare objects, claiming they’re cursed. When my team was hunting for unique props, I suggested using that painting because it holds a special place for me," the director told PTI.

He went on to say, "One of my favorite scenes in Welcome is the painting sequence. It’s a memorable part of the film, and I love it even more because I painted it myself."

Welcome, featuring an ensemble cast led by Akshay Kumar, Nana Patekar, and Anil Kapoor, is now considered a cult comedy. The film continues to be a fan favorite and regularly inspires memes on social media. Bazmee reflected on the film's lasting appeal: "People still watch it again and again. Someone recently told me it was their 25th time watching Welcome. That kind of feedback is just incredible."

As for ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’, this film follows Bazmee’s successful ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’, where Kartik Aaryan took on the role of Ruhaan Randhawa, also known as Rooh Baba, a con artist posing as a psychic. ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’ was itself a sequel to Priyadarshan’s 2007 hit ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’, starring Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan.

Vidya Balan and Madhuri Dixit in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3

In 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3', Vidya Balan returns as the iconic Manjulika from the first film, and new cast members like Madhuri Dixit and Triptii Dimri join the ensemble. Bazmee highlighted how important Vidya and Madhuri are to the story, saying that their characters are major draws for the audience.

"I’ve always wanted to collaborate with Vidya. She’s not only an extraordinary actress but also a wonderful person. People still talk about her performance as Manjulika, so bringing her back was a no-brainer. As for Madhuri, she was always on my mind for this project. When I shared the idea with my team and the actors, everyone was thrilled about the combination of Vidya and Madhuri," Bazmee told PTI.

Produced by T-Series, 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3' is slated to release on November 1, during Diwali.
