Jammu & Kashmir: Six Killed In Massive Fire At DSP's Home In Kathua

A huge fire in Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir, killed six people. Four others sustained serious injuries. Initial investigations indicate suffocation as the probable cause of death.

A massive fire broke out in a house in Kathua's Shiv Nagar, Jammu and Kashmir, leading to the deaths of six people and leaving four others seriously injured. The injured are undergoing treatment at Kathua Government Medical College.

SK Atri, principal of Kathua Government Medical College, confirmed that the fire broke out in a rented house belonging to a retired assistant matron. Out of the 10 people present in the house, six lost their lives. According to Atri, the deceased were members of the household.

Initial investigations suggest that the primary cause of death was suffocation. Police are currently probing the incident, and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem. After completion of the procedure, they will be handed over to the family members.

Cause Of The Fire

The fire reportedly broke out in the house where a retired DSP lived, claiming six lives and injuring four others, including that of a neighbour. The DSP had come to live in the house after retiring in September-October. Authorities noted that suffocation was likely the cause of death, as the fire did not cause extensive structural damage.

The bodies of the victims have been sent for autopsy. The deceased include the DSP's husband-wife, daughter, son and daughter's son. The deceased were identified as Ganga Bhagat, Danish Bhagat, Avatar Krishnan, Barkha Raina, Takash Raina, and Advik Raina, according to local media website The Global Kashmir.
