Kangana Ranaut All Set To Play Indira Gandhi In New Project, Says 'Excited To Essay Such Iconic Role'

Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, known for her acting prowess, is all set to play the role of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in an upcoming project. The ‘Panga’ actress took to social media to announce her new project. The political drama will be written and directed by Sai Kabir, who helmed Kangana starrer ‘Revolver Rani’. Interestingly, the ‘Queen’ star will be seen playing the role of a political figure for the second time in her career.

Ranaut has wrapped up the shoot of ‘Thalaivi’ in which she will be seen as former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. The movie has been making waves ever since the makers announced the biopic.

“Happy to announce my dear friend Sai Kabir and I are collaborating on a political drama. Produced by Manikarnika Films. Written and Directed by Sai Kabir,” Kangana tweeted.

The ‘Fashion’ actress re-tweeted a throwback photo wherein she can be seen dressed as Indira Gandhi. The picture was originally shared by one of her fan clubs. Kangana expressed her excitement on playing the role of an iconic leader in a project. She wrote, “This is a photoshoot about iconic women I did in the beginning of my career, little did I know one day I will get to play the iconic leader on screen.”

Unlike ‘Thalaivi’, the political drama won’t be based on the life of Indira Gandhi. Several other actors will also feature in the project. Kangana issued a statement to reveal that she is playing the role of the first women prime minister of India.

'Yes, I am working in the project. The script will be finalised soon. It is not Indira Gandhi's biopic but a grand period film which will help the modern generation to understand the current socio-political situation of the country,” she said.

On the professional front, Kangana will be next seen in ‘Dhaakad’. The action thriller is slated to hit the silver screens on October 1, 2021. The film, which also stars Arjun Rampal and Divya Dutta, is being directed by Razneesh Ghai.

The National Award winning actress also has ‘Tejas’ and ‘Manikarnika Returns: The Legend Of Didda’ in pipeline.
