Indian short film 'All I Want' selected in Diversity of Cannes Short Film showcase

NEW DELHI: After garnering several accolades worldwide, Venika Mitra's short film 'All I Want' is gearing up to be showcased at Cannes Film Festival, 2017. The short film has been selected for Beyond Borders: Diversity in Cannes Short Film which is scheduled to take place on May 22. 'All I Want' has been chosen among 231 submissions from 30 countries. Earlier it has won Best Short Film Award at 'Lights, Camera, Take, Action Film Festival in Colorado, Best International Short Fiction Film at Movievalley Bazzacinema, Bologna, Italy and Best International Live Action Short Film at Louisiana International Film Festival, USA among others. 'All I Want' is Venika Mitra's directorial debut and money for it has been raised by personal crowd funding. Venika who was working as an assistant director in Hindi Film industry since 2008 said, "I realized there is no right time to make your own film’. So I wrote this story and decided to make my first short film.I knew I had a good story. But I also knew that I had no funds to make my first short film. I started a personal crowd funding effort by asking money, from my close friends from school and college. I have taken all sorts of obligation to complete this film." short Oscar winner sound designer Resul Pookutty is also part of the flick.  The story of 'All I Want' revolves around a street urchin Ratan, to buy one mango. Ratan is a 7-8 years old  who rambles through an entire day to buy one mango. He has only 9 bucks in his pocket and he is falling short of more 10. The mango seller he asks, ridicules him while telling the prices of all the varieties of mangoes available. In his struggle of buying this mango, the very audacious Ratan does whatever he can and thus begins his wild goose chase to get 10 bucks more.
