Independence Day Releases: 'Stree 2' To Have Biggest Opening Of The Year, 'Khel Khel Mein' Trails Behind 'Vedaa'

'Stree 2' starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao is leading the advance box-office collections among all Independence Day releases, including 'Khel Khel Mein' and 'Vedaa.'

Stree 2 starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao is leading the advance box-office collections among all Independence Day releases. The horror-comedy sequel 'Stree 2', also starring Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee and Aparshakti Khurrana, is expected to perform exceptionally well and has taken a significant lead in advance sales over the other two films, 'Khel Khel Mein' and 'Vedaa'.

Akshay Kumar is facing another challenging weekend at the box office with his latest film, 'Khel Khel Mein', trailing in advance ticket sales compared to other Independence Day releases, 'Stree 2' and 'Vedaa'. Additionally, 'Khel Khel Mein' is also falling behind 'Vedaa', starring John Abraham, in ticket sales.

Advance Booking Collection

According to data from industry tracker Sacnilk, 'Khel Khel Mein' has received a relatively limited release compared to both 'Stree 2' and 'Vedaa'. 'Stree 2'. has over six times the number of shows nationwide, and even 'Vedaa' has double the screen presence of 'Khel Khel Mein'. The comedy film, featuring Akshay Kumar alongside Taapsee Pannu, Vaani Kapoor, and Fardeen Khan, has sold fewer than 6,000 tickets for its opening day, amounting to a box office revenue of Rs 23 lakh.

Maharashtra appears to be the strongest market for 'Khel Khel Mein', where it has sold Rs 9 lakh worth of tickets, followed by the Delhi NCR region with nearly Rs 8 lakh in advance sales. In contrast, 'Vedaa' has sold nearly 11,000 tickets worth over Rs 30 lakh for its first day, with significant interest also coming from Maharashtra and Delhi, as well as Uttar Pradesh.

Stree 2 Advance Booking Collection

'Stree 2' is dominating the competition, having sold over 2.2 lakh tickets worth more than Rs 7 crore for its opening day. The majority of the interest for 'Stree 2' is also coming from Delhi and Maharashtra. Directed by Amar Kaushik, who also directed the blockbuster first film, 'Stree 2' is eyeing a Rs 40 crore opening day, according to Bollywood Hungama, which would make it the biggest opening for a Hindi film this year, surpassing 'Kalki 2898 AD'’s Rs 28 crore in north India on its first day.

Interestingly, the average ticket price for 'Khel Khel Mein' is slightly higher than that of 'Stree 2' and 'Vedaa', although the difference is minimal. This suggests that the film is primarily being shown in urban centers. Akshay Kumar has faced a difficult time at the box office in recent years, with all but one of his more than half-a-dozen post-pandemic releases underperforming.
