'Can't Be Permitted': Delhi HC Dismisses Kunal Kamra's Plea Challenging Flying Ban

The Delhi High Court declined to entertain Kunal Kamra's plea challenging the flying ban imposed on him by several airlines for heckling journalist Arnab Goswami on board a flight.

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Friday (March 20) rejected Kunal Kamra’s plea challenging the flying ban imposed on him by  several airlines after he allegedly heckled a TV journalist on an IndiGo flight earlier this year. "This kind of behaviour certainly cannot be permitted," the high court said according to PTI. Justice Naveen Chawla disapproved of Kamra's behaviour on flight and said it cannot be permitted on an airline. The court also declined Kamra's oral plea for an interim direction permitting him to fly on any of the airlines. The court said it was not going to entertain the matter as multiple causes of action had been raised in the matter. After the HC made it clear it was not going to entertain the matter, Kunal's lawyers sought permission to withdraw the plea and approach the appellate authority against the ban by Indigo. IndiGo had banned the comedian from flying with the airline for six months for allegedly heckling a journalist. It later reduced the ban period to three months. Air India, GoAir and SpiceJet had also imposed travel restrictions on the comedian after IndiGo's ban. Vistara also barred Kamra from taking its flights till April 27 after he was found ‘guilty’ of misbehaviour by an internal committee of IndiGo. Kunal had tweeted about the travel ban last week. His tweet read, "Air vistara has also banned me now till the 27th April, following orders like they show... at a time where no one can fly, all I want to say is, neither am I sorry nor am I surprised, nor am I suffering."
For the uninitiated, Kunal Kamra had served a legal notice to IndiGo, demanding a compensation of Rs 25 lakh from IndiGo for the mental pain and losses incurred by him on account of the cancellation of his scheduled shows in India as well as abroad.  He also demanded that the airline revoked his suspension and tender an unconditional apology.
