Gal Gadot Starrer Wonder Woman 3 Cancelled By DC Studios, Here’s Why

The new CEOs of DC Studios James Gunn and Peter Safran have axed the upcoming film 'Wonder Woman 3' starring Gal Gadot.

New Delhi: The DC Extended Universe's new CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran have huge plans to shake things up in the future. The Hollywood Reporter reports that in one of their largest moves, they have scrapped 'Man of Steel 2', nixed a 'Wonder Woman 3' follow-up, and will wrap up the 'Aquaman' series with the release of the second movie next year.

Last week, Patty Jenkins, the director of 'Wonder Woman', and Gal Gadot were informed by Safran and Gunn that the movie will not be a part of their future plans. This came after Jenkins produced a plot summary for the third film.

In a Twitter post on Tuesday, Gadot thanked her fans and expressed her gratefulness to play the protagonist and role model. "A few years ago it was announced that I was going to play Wonder Woman.I’ve been so grateful for the opportunity to play such an incredible, iconic character and more than anything I’m grateful for YOU.The fans. Can’t wait to share her next chapter with you," she wrote in her tweet.

Later, it was revealed that a third instalment treatment "did not fit in with the [DC studio's] new plans."

In 2017, the first Wonder Woman movie was released to immense critical and commercial success. Due to the underwhelming response to Zack Snyder's 'Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice' and Gadot's minimal experience in leading roles, fans were skeptical before the film's release.

However, the superhero flick, which is a female-led solo project, went on to become a cultural benchmark for in pop culutre. The sequel, 'Wonder Woman 1984', received mixed reviews from critics and audiences, since it was released at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The future DC projects' under the supervison of Gunn and Safran is still unknown. In a recent social media post, the former teased the popular 'Kingdom Come' comic book plot, sparking questions about where it might fit in the future plans of DC Studios.
