Bhoomi movie review: Sanjay Dutt, Aditi Rao starrer REVENGE DRAMA fails to impress!

Film: Bhoomi Star cast: Sanjay Dutt, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sharad Kelkar, Shekhar Suman Director: Omung Kumar Rating: 2 stars Duration: 2 hours 15 minutes Sanjay Dutt is back but definitely not with a bang, My first reaction after watching this revenge drama starring Dutt and Aditi Rao Hydari in lead roles. PIC CREDIT: You Tube Looks like 2017 is the year of rape-revenge thrillers be it Raveena Tandon starrer 'Maatr'or Sridevi's 'MOM' but unlike the previous two where a mother takes revenge for her daughter, Bhoomi explores the wrath of a father. STORY: Arun Sachdeva(Sanjay Dutt) is a shoemaker from Agra. A single parent to his only daughter Bhoomi(Aditi Rao Hydari) he shares a loving relationship with his betu(he calls Bhoomi by that name)who is an educated, independent & working girl who often returns home late. But just a day before her wedding Bhoomi is gang-raped by Dhauli (Sharad Kelkar) and his gang of three. The father and daughter are shattered for a while but they then plan a revenge! REVIEW: Making a comeback almost after three years, Sanjay Dutt is in full form and gives a solid performance as a broken father who's daughter is raped a day before her wedding. But alas! The plot is so weak and flawed that it makes us difficult to remain glued to the seats for two hours. You will love Arun and Bhoomi's doting father-daughter relationship on screen. He cooks her dinner and gives her a head massage. While she dyes his hair, and argues why the ganesh arti has the line' baanjhan ko putr det' and not putri instead! However their sweet banter too is not enough to save this weak and flawed movie. And yes, there is also a Sunny Leone's item number 'trippy trippy' which is also not used well by the director! Everything in the movie looks very unreal and lame be it the court scene where a female lawyer of the culprits asks 'Bhoomi' were you a virgin before you were raped? I mean who asks that in a court room in front of the judge! Also the insensitive cops, who are busy watching match on TV as a father asks them to write the rape report of his daughter, the whole court-room drama will make you want to scream. A still from the movie ACTING: Sanjay Dutt shines in his disastrous comeback film and can be your only reason to watch, in-case you are planning to, the actor has a terrific screen presence and totally nails it with his facial expressions. Aditi Rao Hydari as the titular character Bhoomi renders a pleasant face on screen as a sweet girl-next-door and later as the woman seeking revenge. Sharad Kelkar who is a prominent face of small screen and Marathi films is too overrated in the movie, he looks like a caricatured villain from the 80s with his stupid dialogues be it 'save the daughter' or 'Main bhoomi ke jitne upar hoon, utna hi andar bhi hoon' nothing looks villainous as such on screen! Shekhar Suman as Dutt's friend and drinking mate tries hard to make audience laugh with his poor jokes and but looks unimpressive in his supporting role. Overall, Bhoomi has nothing that can force you to go to the theatres and watch it on your own risk only if you are a Sanjay Dutt's die hard fan!
