Over the years, Amitabh Bachchan has been fighting some diseases but he always managed to stay fit through various medical treatments and a healthy lifestyle.
Severe Diverticulitis of the small intestine
According to reports, the actor suffered from gastro issues which later transformed into Diverticulitis of the small intestine. In general, the most common site for the formation of diverticula is in the large intestine. But in the case of Amitabh Bachchan, it happened with his small intestine where the doctor revealed that it is a very rare occurrence and could prove fatal if not treated on time. Mr Bachchan had to undergo surgery in 2005 for this ailment.
Myasthenia Gravis
It is no secret that the actor suffered from various ailments shortly after the ‘Coolie’ incident. It was around this time that the actor was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis, which is caused by an error in the transmission of nerve impulses to muscles. The symptoms of this disease include weakness in the arm and leg muscles, double vision and the person suffering sometimes also faces difficulty with speech and chewing. The disease which cannot be cured totally but proper treatment can help. Amitabh Bachchan recouped from this condition but according to the doctors, it can trigger anytime.
Tuberculosis of the spine
Amitabh Bachchan has also battled Tuberculosis of the spine which is a kind of tuberculous arthritis of the intervertebral joints. The actor went through a very rigorous treatment for almost a year. He even shared how uncomfortable it was during this time where a person finds difficulty in even sitting or lying down.
Hepatitis B
The megastar himself made this revelation that he was suffering from Hepatitis B which came to him accidentally. This happened after the incident on the sets of Coolie that the actor was infused with the blood of about 200 donors into his system. One of the blood donors had Hepatitis B which got into Big B’s system during this process. Everything was fine until 2000 when the Sholay star went for a regular medical check-up. After going through his reports, the doctors told him that his liver was infected and the star was surviving on just 25% of his liver. Amitabh Bachchan also assured his well-wishers that a person can also survive with 12% of liver but no one gets to that stage.
Megastar Amitabh Bachchan has been a strong survivor and has fought his battles throughout. His daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and granddaughter Aaradhya Bachchan have also tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
