New Delhi: Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar has responded to the controversy regarding his citizenship by issuing a statement on Twitter. The ‘Kesari’ actor in his statement said that he didn’t understand the negativity and unwarranted interest’ behind his citizenship. Khiladi Kumar, who recently grabbed eyeballs for his non-political interview with PM Narendra Modi, said that he never denied having a Canadian passport. The ‘PadMan’ star further added that he didn't visit Canada in the past seven years. ‘’I really don’t understand the unwarranted interest and negativity about my citizenship. I have never hidden or denied that I hold a Canadian passport. It is also equally true that I have not visited Canada in the last seven years. I work in India, and pay all my taxes in India. While all these years, I have never needed to prove my love for India to anyone, I find it disappointing that my citizenship issue is constantly dragged into needless controversy, a matter that is personal, legal, non-political, and of no consequence to others. I would like to continue contributing in my small way to the causes that I believe in and make India stronger and stronger,’’ Akshay Kumar said in a statement. Check out his tweet! The controversy regarding Akshay’s citizenship emerged when netizens slammed the actor for not voting in the Lok Sabha Elections 2019. The National Award winning actor faced flak from the users on social media for not turning at the polling booth in Mumbai along with his wife Twinkle Khanna. Akshay Kumar's films like 'Kesari', 'Airlift' and 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha' had nationalistic overtones and his absence from the polling booth didn't go unnoticed. People trolled the actor on social media for not casting his vote in the elections.
