Adipurush: Saif Ali Khan Issues Apology After His Statement On Raavan Stirs Controversy

Saif Ali Khan received flak on social media after he said that he would present Raavan in a 'humane' manner and 'justify his abduction of Sita' in 'Adipurush'.

New Delhi: Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, who will play the role of Lankesh in Om Raut's 'Adipurush', stirred controversy after he said that he would 'justify Raavan's abduction of Sita' in the film. His words didn't go down well with a certain section of social media users. The netizens expressed their displeasure over Saif's recent interview and demanded the makers to replace the 'Jawaani Jaaneman' star. Here's How Saif Ali Khan REACTED To Controversy Surrounding His Interview

The 'Love Aaj Kal' actor issued a statement and said that he never intended to hurt the sentiments of the people. He withdrew his statement and added that the entire team of 'Adipurush' is working to present the epic drama 'without any distortions'. "I’ve been made aware that one of my statements during an interview, has caused a controversy and hurt people’s sentiments. This was never my intention or meant that way. I would like to sincerely apologise to everybody and withdraw my statement. Lord Ram has always been the symbol of Righteousness & Heroism for me. Adipurush is about celebrating the victory of good over evil and the entire team is working together to present the epic without any distortions," Saif said in a statement.

What Did Saif Ali Khan Say About Raavan?

The 'Dil Chahta Hai' star, while talking to a leading daily, said that the makers would raise the entertainment quotient with 'Adipurush'. He added that he was quite excited to play the role of demon king in the much-awaited film. "It’s interesting to play a demon king, fewer strictures in that. But we will make him humane, up the entertainment quotient, justify his abduction of Sita and the war with Ram as revenge for what was done to his sister Surpanakha by Lakshman, who cut off her nose," Khan told Mumbai Mirror. Adipurush Cast

Telugu superstar Prabhas will play the lead role in 'Adipurush', which will reportedly go on floors in January 2021. Kriti Sanon is rumoured to be playing the female protagonist in the highly anticipated flick. The makers are yet to reveal the other cast members of the film. 'Adipurush' will hit the silver screens in 2022. On the professional front, Saif Ali Khan was last seen in Sushant Singh Rajput's last film 'Dil Bechara'. He recently completed the shoot of 'Bhoot Police' in Dharamshala. The horror comedy drama also stars Arjun Kapoor, Jacqueline Fernandez and Yami Gautam. Watch this space for more updates!
