Adipurush: Saif Ali Khan Faces Flak For His 'Will Justify Raavan's Abduction Of Sita' Comment

Saif Ali Khan, who will be seen playing the role of Lankesh in Prabhas starrer 'Adipurush', said that 'Raavan's abduction of Sita will be justified' in the film.

New Delhi: Telugu superstar Prabhas starrer 'Adipurush' has been making waves ever since the project was announced. Saif Ali Khan, last seen in Sushant Singh Rajput and Sanjana Sanghi starrer 'Dil Bechara', will essay the role of Lankesh in the much-awaited film. Prabhas had shared a post on Instagram on September 3 to welcome Saif on board. The post created a lot of buzz on social media as the 'Baahubali' star wrote, "7000 years ago existed the world's most intelligent demon" while introducing the character in his film. Saif Ali Khan, while talking to a leading daily, opened up playing Lanka king Raavan in 'Adipurush'. The 'Dil Chahta Hai' actor expressed his excitement on essaying the character of demon king in the highly-anticipated flick.  Khan said that he will try to raise the entertainment quotient with the film. "It’s interesting to play a demon king, fewer strictures in that. But we will make him humane, up the entertainment quotient, justify his abduction of Sita and the war with Ram as revenge for what was done to his sister Surpanakha by Lakshman, who cut off her nose," Saif told Mumbai Mirror.

Saif Ali Khan's recent interview didn't go down well with several users on Twitter. Many users criticized the 'Jawaani Jaaneman' actor for trying to 'justify the abduction of Sita'.  "How can someone justify abduction of other's wife? #SaifAliKhan statement is completely against theme of Ramayana," one user tweeted.

'Adipurush' is being directed by Om Raut, who helmed Ajay Devgn starrer 'Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior'. The movie also featured Saif Ali Khan, Kajol and Sharad Kelkar. According to another report in the daily, Kriti Sanon will essay the role of the female lead in 'Adipurush'. The flick is slated to hit the silver screens in 2022. The shooting is expected to commence from next year. Talking about Saif Ali Khan, the actor is currently preoccupied with the shoot of 'Bhoot Police'. The film co-starring Arjun Kapoor, Yami Gautam and Jacqueline Fernandez is being directed by Pavan Kirpalani.
