Mumbai: Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, who is often embroiled in controversies, has once again made it to the headlines. The ‘Tejas’ actress and her brother Aksht Ranaut have now challenged an FIR lodged against her by the Mumbai Police for alleged copyright infringement and cheating in connection with a film.

Earlier this year, Ashish Kaul, the writer of ‘Didda: The Warrior Queen of Kashmir’ accused Kangana, producer Kamal Jain, Rangoli Chandel and Aksht Ranaut of copyright violation and cheating. Kaul filed an FIR in March this year after Kangana Ranaut used a part of his story while announcing the film in a tweet.

According to Ashish, he has the exclusive copyright to the life story of Queen Didda and he also sent an email to Kangana about the storyline of his book who then used it for announcing her story without seeking Ashish Kaul’s permission.

According to a report of PTI, “Kangana and Akshat in their petition in the HC also challenged the magistrate's order to lodge FIR, and a notice issued by the police directing them to appear for questioning.”

Kangana’s lawyer Rizwan Siddiquee argued in the HC on Friday and was quoted by PTI, “The whole FIR is lodged on a false case. Copyright infringement can be there only when there is comparative work. The petitioners have not made any work till now. She (Kangana) had only announced on her social media that she was planning to make a movie on Queen Didda.”

The report further revealed, “Siddiquee then sought interim protection from coercive action (such as arrest). The bench sought response from public prosecutor Deepak Thakare, who assured that no such action will be taken by the police until Monday.”

A division bench of Justices S S Shinde and G A Sanap said that the further hearing will be held on Monday.
