When Govinda Signed 70 Films At A Time After His Debut: 'It’s Not An Achievement. It Just Happens'

An old video of an interview of Govinda has resurfaced on the internet where the actor said that he had actually signed 70 films immediately after his debut.

Govinda is one of the most successful actors of the 90s. The actor made his debut in 1986 with ‘Love 86’, which became a massive success. This breakthrough led to a flurry of projects, with the actor appearing in 40 films within just four years of his entry into the industry. However, an old video of an interview of the actor has resurfaced on the internet where the actor said that he had actually signed 70 films immediately after his debut.

Govinda shared he signed 70 films after his debut

During the interview with ITMB Shows, when questioned about the rumours regarding his rapid success and the number of films he had signed, Govinda confirmed, “I had 70 films.” When asked if he was actively working on all those projects, he clarified, “No, I had 70 films at one time.”

The actor explained that the sheer volume of projects resulted in him not being able to complete them all, as several were eventually dropped. “Later on, 8-10 closed themselves, or maybe 5-6 did. Then 4-5 films I had to leave because of dates and scheduling,” Govinda shared. He described the hectic pace of his early career, mentioning that he sometimes filmed for up to five movies in a single day.

When the interviewer probed whether he viewed such a high workload as a significant achievement, Govinda humbly replied, “It’s not an achievement. It just happens. I know that much that often it’s just someone’s time.”

The star also explained that the diversity of the projects he signed on for played a role in his decision to take on multiple films. “The first release was Love 86, where I did romantic comedy and dance. In Ilzaam, my role was emotional. Then, Pyaar Karke Dekho released recently, and it had a buffoonery type of loud comedy. Next is Sindoor with Neelam, which is a total social film with family subject,” he elaborated.

Govinda misfire incident

The actor was recently admitted to a hospital due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The incident took place on October 1 early in the morning, around 4:45 to 5:00 a.m., as Govinda was preparing to leave for Kolkata. Sharing about the details of the accident he said, "I was getting ready for the show… for Kolkata. It was early morning, and the revolver fell and suddenly went off. I felt a jolt, and when I looked, there was a fountain of blood.”

Dr. Ramesh Agarwal, who treated the actor following the accident, confirmed that the bullet struck just below his left knee, requiring 8 to 10 stitches.
