Urmila Matondkar Takes A Dig At Award Shows For Overlooking Her Role In Satya: 'Don’t Talk To Me About Favouritism And Nepotism'

Urmila Matondkar recently spoke about her film 'Satya' completing 25 years, and expressed her disappointment over not receiving any recognition or awards for her performance in the movie.

New Delhi: Bollywood actor Urmila Matondkar recently spoke about her film 'Satya' completing 25 years, and expressed her disappointment over not receiving any recognition or awards for her performance in the movie. Directed by Ram Gopal Varma, 'Satya' is considered an iconic film in Indian cinema and is known for its gritty portrayal of Mumbai's underworld.

In a social media post, she shared pictures of her character and expressed her feelings about not being acknowledged for her acting skills. She mentioned that her portrayal of Vidya had nothing to do with her glamorous image, but she was not recognized for her performance and did not receive any awards or nominations.

The actor captioned the images: “25yrs of Satya n of playing simple naive chawl girl Vidya at the peak of a scintillating glamorous career. But NO what did that have to do with 'acting'... so no awards n not even nominations. So sit down n don’t talk to me about favouritism n nepotism... #justsaying (sic)."

The post garnered attention, and fans of Urmila Matondkar praised her for her exceptional acting in the film. Many appreciated the simplicity and authenticity she brought to the character of Vidya, considering it a refreshing contrast to the glamorous roles she had played before. Fans mentioned that her portrayal of Vidya was like an ‘oasis in the desert’, highlighting her versatility as an actress

While Urmila worked in many glamorous roles, ‘Satya’ along with ‘Kaun’ and ‘Ek Hasina Thi’ serve as the mark of her acting prowess.

Bollywood actress Kajol, whose ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ released in the same year as ‘Satya’, swept majority of the awards at several award functions that year.

As 'Satya' completes 25 glorious years, it continues to be celebrated as a game-changer in Indian cinema, known for its raw and gritty storytelling.
