Shibani Akhtar Says Couple Therapy Is 'Like Going Gym', Recalls Her Wedding On Monday And Taking Therapy With Farhan On Wednesday
In a recent podcast with Rhea Chakraborty, Shibani Akhtar shared her thoughts on the significance of taking couple therapy.
New Delhi: Shibani Akhtar recently appeared on Rhea Chakraborty's podcast Chapter 2 with actor-producer Farhan Akhtar. In the podcast, the couple candidly discussed their upbringing, relationship and parents. The couple tied the knot in February 2022 after dating for three years. Shibani openly discussed the value of therapy as a means of self-discovery and connection-building.
Reflecting on taking couple therapy with Farhan Akhtar, Shibani explained, "We started doing couples therapy I think about six months before or after we got engaged. It wasn't one person convincing the other. It was like this is something that sounds like a smart thing to do.”
Shibani humorously recounted that they went for therapy a few days after their wedding. She shared, “We got married on a Monday. Our signing was on a Monday and our next scheduled appointment was on a Wednesday. I remember we walked in and our therapist was like ‘Why are you guys here? You just got married like 24 hours ago?'”
She added, “It's like going to the gym. You have to keep working on it. So, there are times when we go for sessions and it's every couple of weeks and sometimes we go in there and we just look at each other and we're like we have nothing to talk about. There are days where we go in and we were like we are going to need longer than an hour because let me just tell you some things about this guy right here. So, there are those days as well.”

Shibani went on to say that their attitude towards therapy affects how they deal with arguments. She said, “There are times where we maybe get into a fight at home and we know we've got to see our therapist on Wednesday. So, we will just wait or I will try and wait. I want to get into it right now and he'll be like ‘Let's just wait and discuss it on Wednesday’.”

Two days after their small-scale wedding party at Farhan's family farmhouse in Khandala on February 19, 2022, Farhan and Shibani got married in a civil ceremony on February 21, 2022, in Mumbai.
Earlier, Farhan was married to famous hairdresser Adhuna Bhabani. The couple divorced in 2017. In 2000, the couple tied the knot, and they divorced in 2017. Shakya and Akira are their two daughters.
