Rashmika Mandanna Finally Reacts To Her Viral AI Deepfake Video: 'I Feel Really Hurt...'

New Delhi: The recent and widespread deepfake video of Rashmika Mandanna highlights the rising fret about the potential damage of deepfake technology against women and public figures. A few days ago, a video purporting to show Rashmika entering a lift in revealing clothing went viral. The video was found to have been altered using artificial intelligence and deepfake technologies to make it seem as if it was featuring Rashmika. The actress has finally spoken out about it. Rashmika commented on it saying that the community should take action since "technology is being misused."

Rashmika stresses the need to take precautions against the abuse of technology and the threat it presents to individual and professional reputations. 

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), she wrote, "I feel really hurt to share this and have to talk about the deepfake video of me being spread online. Something like this is honestly, extremely scary not only for me, but also for each one of us who today is vulnerable to so much harm because of how technology is being misused."

She added, "Today, as a woman and as an actor, I am thankful for my family, friends and well wishers who are my protection and support system. But if this happened to me when I was in school or college, I genuinely can’t imagine how could I ever tackle this. We need to address this as a community and with urgency before more of us are affected by such identity theft."

In her tweet, Rashmika mentioned both the Cyberabad Police and the Maharashtra Cyber accounts.

After the deepfake video of Rashmika Mandanna's face went viral, Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar referred to it as the most "dangerous and damaging form of misinformation”. The minister also emphasised the responsibilities of social media sites under the IT regulations announced in April.
