Diljit Dosanjh recently made his US TV debut as he appeared on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon. His Dil Luminati tour across North America is getting sold out. Despite his immense success, Diljit shares that making money is no longer his top priority. In a recent interview, he discussed giving his song 'Lover' to Karan Johar for the film 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani' without any charge. He simply stated, “If he would have paid me, how much richer would I have gotten?”
Diljit gave Lover song to Karan Johar for free
During a conversation with Sucharita Tyagi on her YouTube channel, Diljit was asked if his friendship with Karan Johar led him to offer the song for free. The 'GOAT' singer responded, “I am not friends with anyone as such. If I have worked with someone once and they need something, if I can’t help them then what is the point? If I was a doctor then I would have done his surgery for free (laughs).”
Diljit emphasised the importance of helping each other, saying, “If one of my music producer friends does a song for me, then I sing a song for them. The only thing that matters is, what can you do for someone you already know? That’s all there is. There is nothing like I gave it for free.”
Diljit on why he gave the song for free
Highlighting his perspective, Diljit mentioned that even if Karan had paid him, it wouldn’t have made a significant difference. “Woh mereko paise de dete, main kitna ameer ho jata? Unke chalo mann mein aaya yeh achi baat hai. Lekin unko bhi paise ki kami nahi hai aur mujhe bhi koi aisi zyada zarurat nahi hai toh isliye maine kaha ki aap le lo, use kar lo, koi baat nahi (If he paid me, how much richer would I have got? He thought about it, that’s a good thing. But he isn’t short of money and I also don’t need much, so I said take it, use it.),” shared Diljit.
Previously, Karan Johar had expressed his gratitude to Diljit for the song's inclusion in the film. ‘Lover’ plays in the background during a key scene in 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani' when Alia Bhatt's Rani and Ranveer Singh's Rocky exchange houses and start living with each other's families. Karan had recalled asking Diljit about the song, to which the singer replied, “Aap puch kyu rahe ho? Yeh haq banta hai aapka (Why are you asking? It’s your right).”
