Animal Makers' Official Page Takes Dig At Lyricist Swanand Kirkire For Calling Out Women's Treatment In Film

Recently, writer Swanand Kirkire, shared his views about the treatment of women with regards to 'Animal'

New Delhi: Ranbir Kapoor starrer 'Animal' has created havoc at the box office. The Sandeep Reddy Vanga film has also become the centre of controversy amid charges of misogyny, violence and gore. Recently, writer Swanand Kirkire, shared his views about the treatment of women with regards to 'Animal'.

'Animal' has become the most polarising film of the year. While several Vanga fans have loved the film, others have slammed the misogyny and vulgar display of violence-mental, emotional and physical.

Swanand Kirkire has become the first to call the film 'scary for today's women'.

"Today after watching Animal, I really felt pity for the women of today's generation. Now, a new man has been prepared for you, who is more scary, who does not respect you that much and who aims to subdue you, suppress you and feels proud of himself... I have come home desperate, dejected and weak(sic)". Swanand Kirkire said in an interview with a publication.

The lyricist also expressed concern that the film might 'determine the future of Indian cinema afresh, in a new, scary and dangerous direction," adding: "Ranbir's dialogue in which he says that men who are not able to become alpha, become poets to attract women... I am a port. I do poetry for a living. Do I have a place? This film is making a lot of money and the glorious history of Indian cinema is being embarrassed." He added.

However, Animal’s official Twitter handle also tweeted a response to the lyricist and said, "Do not let your knees fall ahead of your toes or cave in towards each other. Keep feet shoulder-width apart to maintain a good base of support for balance. Land softly on the balls of the feet to help absorb the force of the landing. Yes.... now it landed perfectly 😘 @swanandkirkire.”

Despite the box office buzz, ‘Animal’ has created unending buzz on the internet ever since release.
