Alia Bhatt Shares Ranbir Kapoor Sings A Malayalam Lullaby For Raha, 'Invents Random Games' For Her

Alia Bhatt opened up about the heartwarming relationship between her husband Ranbir Kapoor and their daughter Raha, describing it as "one for the ages," on The Great Indian Kapil Show.

The much-anticipated second season of 'The Great Indian Kapil Show' on Netflix has finally arrived, and for the first episode, Kapil Sharma welcomed the cast and crew of 'Jigra'—including Alia Bhatt, Vedang Raina, Karan Johar, and director Vasan Bala. While the episode was filled with the usual fun and laughter, it also touched on deeper topics like motherhood, parenthood in the film industry, Karan’s role as ‘Cupid,’ and, of course, their upcoming film 'Jigra'.

Alia Bhatt on Ranbir and Raha’s Special Bond

Alia Bhatt opened up about the heartwarming relationship between her husband Ranbir Kapoor and their daughter Raha, describing it as "one for the ages." She shared how Ranbir engages in creative and playful activities with their daughter, including inventing impromptu games.

“Ranbir invents random games for Raha. Suddenly, he’d be like, ‘Do you want to touch the clothes in the cupboard?’ and then they would have a sensory play categorising the dress as Velvet, Suede, Cotton, etc. He is very adventurous and very creative. It is very endearing,” Alia said. She also revealed a touching connection between the family and a 1991 Malayalam film, 'Sandhwanam'.

Ranbir sings Malayalam lullaby for Raha

Alia shared that the nurses who care for Raha are from Kerala, and they have been singing a traditional Malayalam lullaby for her, a song that has been widely used in Malayali households since 1991.

“When Raha wants to sleep, she says Vaavavo as the cue. Now, Ranbir has learned to sing 'Unni Vaavavo',” Alia said, adding a sweet anecdote about how the family has embraced the Malayalam song. Karan Johar, too, shared that his children have picked up Malayalam because of the nurses who looked after them.

Mahesh Bhatt as the Goofy Granddad

In a lighter moment, Kapil Sharma asked Alia about her father Mahesh Bhatt, known for his intellectual persona, and how he’s transitioned into a playful granddad. The audience burst into laughter as Alia revealed, “Raha calls him Gee Paa, and he does these odd things with his face to make her smile.”

Reflecting on the emotional side of parenthood, Alia added, “It’s kind of sweet, and I feel that he did the same thing with me when I was a kid. When you see your parents play with your child, it’s almost like having flashes of your own childhood.”

Alia also recounted a charming story about her mother, Soni Razdan, who sings a quirky song while changing Raha’s diapers. “My mother has a song she sings while changing Raha’s diapers. It goes like ‘Punjabi Samosa, Aloo ka Pakoda, Gujarati ka Dhokla…’ and she sang the same when I was a baby. No wonder I grew up to love Dhoklas, Samosas, and Pakodas,” Alia laughed, bringing a sense of nostalgia and warmth to the conversation.

About Alia Bhatt starrer Jigra

The episode also highlighted 'Jigra', directed by Vasan Bala, in which Alia Bhatt plays a protective sister determined to save her brother from captivity in a foreign prison. The action drama, produced by Alia alongside Karan Johar, is set to release worldwide on October 11.
