Aamir Khan Shares His Realisation Of Family Over Films And Why He Wanted To Quit Acting: 'My Ammi Is Aging Now...'

In a podcast Rhea Chakraborty, Aamir Khan talked about his realisation that his career absorbed three decades of his life.

New Delhi: Aamir Khan recently talked about the enormous effect his years of nonstop work on his personal life. During his reflection on thirty years in the industry, Aamir revealed a turning point in his life when he understood the amount of time he had missed out on spending with his family, particularly his elderly mother, whom he lovingly refers to as "Ammi."

In a conversation with Rhea Chakraborty on her podcast, Aamir said he considered quitting the film business permanently as a result of his deep self-reflection. He said, "For me, work is fun. It was like playing. I play in films. So, in that euphoria and excitement, 30 years have passed, 32 years have passed. And the people closest to me, I haven't given them any time in those 30 years... 30 years! Not three weeks, not three months, or three years... 30 years! My Ammi is aging now. I don't know how much time I have left with her. As such you can't trust life anyway. There is no guarantee when it comes to our lives. But a realisation dawned upon me, that I'm spending very less time with Ammi."

The actor said he planned to quit acting altogether because he was beset with guilt about the time he had to spend away from his family. He added, "That realisation was a turning point in my life. At that time, I made a decision. I mean, I told myself that the thing that kept me away from my family. I'll leave that. I am going to leave that. So, I decided that I wouldn't work in films. I would never do a film in my entire life. I won't work in films, I will not act, I will not produce. I will not direct. Absolutely nothing. I want to move away from films." 

In the same podcast, Aamir shared he wants to increase his film productions in order to provide more opportunities for up-and-coming filmmakers and actors like ‘Laapataa Ladies'.

Last month, Aamir Khan threw a massive party to commemorate the birthday of his "ammi" (mother), Zeenat Hussain’s 90 birthday party. In attendance were Zeenat's friends and relatives, including Aamir's daughter Ira Khan, Kiran Rao and Reena Dutta, Aamir's ex-wives, and legendary performer Asha Parekh.
