UP Election 2022: Sonia Gandhi Not Among Congress Party's Star Campaigners For Rae Bareli Seat

New Delhi: Congress President Sonia Gandhi, who holds the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat, is not among the party's top campaigners in Uttar Pradesh's fourth phase of assembly elections.

The fourth phase, on February 23, would witness assembly elections in the five Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seats of Bachhrawan-SC, Harchandpur, Rae Bareli, Sareni, and Unchahar, PTI reported.

Senior Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and Rahul Gandhi, as well as AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, are among the 30-star campaigners nominated by the party for the fourth round of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

Azad, the former Rajya Sabha leader, is a major figure of the 'Group of 23' who have advocated organisational reform and have been critical of the party leadership.

On Sunday, the Congress revealed its list of star campaigners for the fourth round of the Uttar Pradesh assembly election.

Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel are among the other prominent campaigners.

Former Rajasthan deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot, who had revolted against the Congress government in his home state, is also a prominent campaigner in the fourth phase of Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.

The party has nominated Uttar Pradesh party officials Salman Khurshid, Pramod Tiwari, P L Punia, Rajiv Shukla, Ajay Kumar Lallu, and Aradhna Misra 'Mona' as star campaigners.

Other names include former cricketer Mohd Azharuddin, Maharashtra cabinet member Varsha Gaekwad, Gujarat PCC working president Hardik Patel, and Rajya Sabha MP Deepinder Singh Hooda.

AICC minorities cell leader Imran Pratapgarhi, along with party spokeswoman Supriya Shrinate, has been declared the star campaigner.

UP Assembly Election 2022 — Polling Date, Schedule & Counting Day

The schedule for the 2022 UP Assembly Election will be conducted in seven phases:

  1. 1st Phase: Feb 10
  2. 2nd Phase: Feb 14
  3. 3rd Phase: Feb 20
  4. 4th Phase: Feb 23
  5. 5th Phase: Feb 27
  6. 6th Phase: March 3
  7. 7th Phase: March 7
  8. Counting Day: March 10
